Although 1200 Washington Street is our home base, it is not exclusively the only venue for our community events and outreach.
We strive to provide programs that lift and celebrate the spirit of the community.
Back to School Supply Program
Every year before the start of the school year the Mason Civic League participates in a program that donates book bags, pens and pencils, notebooks, glue sticks, crayons, and other school supplies to low income children in need. This important program helps students start the school year off right and ensures that these children have the tools they need to succeed.
Halloween Costume Program
During the month of October there are a number of Halloween activities in our community. Unfortunately, not every child can afford a costume. The Mason Civic League assists these families by helping provide costumes to children, so they are not left out. Last year, the most popular costumes were the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Mason Civic League was proud to help create Halloween memories that will last a lifetime.
Thanksgiving Turkeys
Thanksgiving is time for families to spend time together and be thankful for the wonderful things we have in life. The Mason Civic League assists families in need who cannot afford a Thanksgiving Dinner. We participate in the annual turkey drive conducted by the Brian P. Stack Civic Association, as well as providing turkeys and side dishes to families to senior citizens and low income families. We’d like to that Barbara Reyes and the Hoboken Housing Authority Rental Advisory Board for their assistance in identifying families in need and for helping distribute the food that is donated.
Holiday Toy Donations
During the holiday season the Mason Civic League donates holiday toys to families in need. In past years, donations have been made in Hoboken, Jersey City, and Union City. The Mason Civic League also works with community philanthropist Professor Fernando Uribe to host an annual holiday toy drive as well.
Love Your Neighborhood
Valentine’s Day is a time to show love, not just for our sweethearts, but for our community as well. Every year, the Mason Civic League coordinates our Love Your Neighborhood Program. This program distributes gift baskets and treats to those who serve our community such as Fire and Safety Officers, Police Officers, Crossing Guards, Teachers, Public Works Employees, and others who serve our community. In addition, the Mason Civic League participates in Valentine’s Day Parties for our Senior Citizens by providing cookies, juice, coffee, and tea to the various dances held around our community. Also during this time we encourage residents to participate in community programs to help make our neighborhoods a better place to live and raise a family.
Hoboken NAACP Dinner
In 2014, the Mason Civic League was honored by the Hoboken NAACP with the Hoboken NAACP Community Service Award. This award was in honor of the various programs the Mason Civic League offers to help improve our community.
Health Programs
The Mason Civic League runs various health programs throughout the year. Cancer screenings, diabetes testing, and nutritional awareness seminars are just some of the health programs offered by the Mason Civic League.
Hugs and Bugs Club
The Hugs & Bugs Club was created as a place for families to come together, have tons of fun and learn from the activities as well as from each other. Classes include activities that improve and increase sensory, sign language, and socialization.
Community Arts Program
The Mason Civic allows use of its community space by local artists to display their work. This helps support the arts and allows the community to come together and support our local artists. From paintings and drawings to performing arts this is the longest running program by the Mason Civic League.
Youth Sports Sponsorships
The Mason Civic League sponsors numbers youth sports teams throughout Hudson County. From basketball to baseball and softball to tennis our organization helps our children participate in organized sports leagues to help them stay on the right track and out of trouble.
Pershing Field Carnival
The Mason Civic League is one of the sponsors of the Pershing Field Carnival These festivities include rides, games, and good food. It is enjoyed by residents of all ages.
Hurricane Sandy Relief
During Hurricane Sandy the Mason Civic League’s community space remained open 24 hours a day. Thanks to a generator that was generously donated by Motorola the Mason Civic League helped provide heat and shelter to many residents. In addition, our organization delivered food, supplies, and even lifesaving medication to any resident in need.

During Hurricane Irene our organization delivered food, supplies, and even lifesaving medication to any resident in need.
Hudson County Recovers
After Hurricane Sandy the Mason Civic League established the Hudson County Recovers fund. Our organization raised over $25,000 to assist local non-profits in replenishing their coffers, much of which were drained during Hurricane Sandy.
Pershing Field Skating with Santa
The Mason Civic League sponsored skating with Santa Clause at Pershing Field. This allowed young residents to skate free of charge and then enjoy complimentary cookies and hot chocolate while watching a local youth skating team perform.
Rental and Utility Assistance Program
In these tough economic times some residents experience difficulty paying rent and utility bills. The Mason Civic League assist residents in need by helping them pay rent to keep their housing and pay utilities to keep their heat and electricity on, especially during cold winter months.
Funeral Assistance Program
The Mason Civic assists local families that are in need to help provide proper wake and funeral services for family members who pass away.
Hoboken All Star Music Jam
For two consecutive years the Mason Civic League was the Double Platinum Sponsor of the Hoboken All Star Music Jam. This reunion concert reunited various Hoboken bands and musical groups and all the proceeds benefit the Hoboken Elks Handicapped Children’s fund. In the past two years combined this event has raised over $40,000 for this important fund!
Liberty Humane Society
The Mason Civic League supports the Liberty Humane Society’s mission mission is to foster a community of compassion and respect, and provide animals in need with a chance at a lifelong, loving home. After Hurricane Irene the Mason family even fostered a dog and helped her find a forever home.
March of Dimes
Every year the Mason Civic League is proud to work with local philanthropist Professor Fernando Uribe to help raise funds for the March of Dimes.
Neighborhood Snow Shoveling Program
During the winter our community experiences a great deal of snow. Our organization assists senior citizens, residents, and local businesses to help remove snow and keep sidewalks salted. This programs has been ongoing since the Mason Civic League was formed in 2010.
Neighborhood Cleanups
Throughout the year the Mason Civic League organizes volunteers to conduct neighborhood cleanup programs. These programs help improve the quality of life in our community and bring neighbors together for a good cause.
Jersey City Golden Gloves
The Mason Civic League was a sponsor of the Jersey City Golden Gloves tournament. Our organization provided tickets to families in need so that they could have a night out together and also learn about the long history of boxing both locally and nationally.
